Welcome!
Hello families! We will be using this site to guide our time online together. Each day there will be a variety of activities and we encourage students to complete as much as they are able to. The goal each day is to do some reading, writing, and math. If there is still time we encourage them to add in social, science, art, PE, and music.
At home learning is often challenging, so do the best you can, and never hesitate to reach out to your teacher. We've linked PDF's to print for many of the activities. We encourage you to print these if you are able, however students are also able to just work in a notebook or on loose leaf paper if needed. If you need the school to print things for you, we have a few packages available that you could pick up from the school. Each day our class will meet at 9:00am and 1:00pm on Teams. Please connect with your child's teacher if you are having trouble accessing Teams. Sign in during these times, as our lessons will supplement the materials posted online. We look forward to seeing each other online! Teachers will also be available to do individual or small group calls to help where needed. All work for the week will be posted on this website. Take a picture of all of your finished work and upload it to your Class Dojo portfolio so your teacher can mark it and . To review Teams login information, please view the document below:

Reading
Read any fiction story. This can be a picture book, chapter book, or a book on Epic, Raz Kids, Storyline Online, etc.
As you read, think about the parts of the story - setting (where the story takes place), characters, what happens in the beginning, middle, and ending of the story. Complete the story map using words and/or pictures.

Math
Try one of the math games from the video below today. Knowing our math facts and being able to recall them fluently will help us as we move to bigger numbers. See if you can work with a partner at home, or try the games solo!
Remember to use strategies like doubles, making ten, 9+ strategy, doubles +1, counting on, etc. to help you solve the questions quickly. |

Writing
Let's write short fictional stories today, however we encourage you to write a fictional story based on something real in your life. Robert Munsch is very well known for writing his hilarious stories based on things in his own life, or things he saw from others. If you want some inspiration check out his website, click on a book, and see if it sparks an idea.
A few things to remember when writing fiction. You should have an idea of your characters, setting, and beginning, middle, and end events. These stories should also have a problem and a solution. You could even uses the template from yesterdays reading task to help you plan your story.
You don't need to finish the whole story today, but set a goal to plan your story and then try to spend 20 minutes writing.
Be ready to share on Teams with your classmates!

Here is the link to Robert Munsch's site if you want to get inspiration from there too! Robert Munsch story ideas You can write on any paper you have at home, but if you'd like some writing paper similar to what you use at school, you can print some from the file below.

Reading
Read a book aloud for at least 20 minutes. While reading aloud, work on your fluency. Can you read smoothly (like we talk)? Can you add expression or different voices to make your reading more interesting to listen to?
Choose two or three questions from the list that you can answer. Write down or type out your answer to 1 question and send it in to your teacher.

Math
In class we are working on addition and subtraction. Today we are reviewing basic addition and subtraction with some fun colouring practice too. Remember to colour them in a way that shows you care :) Also, as you are completing the question try to think of how you are solving it without just counting all the parts on your fingers. Use strategies like doubles, making ten, or counting on when you're working. Have fun!

Pick a clipboard and challenge yourself to see how many equations you can make! You could cirle 5+3+2=10, or just 9+1=10. Remember to pick a clipboard that will challenge you! How many can you find?

Daily Math Game
Playing math games is a great way to practice a variety of math skills. Each day we will post a new math game that you can try out. Today's game is called memory bonds, and you will need a deck of cards!
Have fun! |
|
Optional Bonus work: Let's review what you have learned about numbers this year. Read the clues carefully before coloring in the 100 chart with pencil crayons or markers.

Science
Try out this fun science activity today! Remember to think like a scientist who asks questions, makes predictions, and comes to a conclusion too!
Writing
Let's have some fun with our writing today. Can you write about how to make hot chocolate, and then see if someone at home can follow your instructions and see how the hot chocolate turns out? Be sure to add in great details and think carefully about all the things you will need.
Remember to use words like 'first', 'then', 'next', and 'last', and to add pictures if they will help your instructions. There is a template below, but you can just write it on any paper you have.

The video below will make you laugh, but also is a great reminder that you need to have good instructions when teaching how to do something.

Daily Math Game
Try out a new math game today. This one needs dominos and is a little more complicated. Feel free to try this game if you're up for a challenge, or play the one from yesterday (or jump ahead and try tomorrows). If you don't have any dominos and still want to play this game you could make a mini dominoes set, or print a set off from home. This game also can be played with a game board that you can download below.

Work-out Wednesday is back!
Post a picture or response of what you chose on your Class Dojo portfolio or in the TEAMS chat.
Writing
Can you turn your story from Tuesday, or your hot chocolate writing from yesterday into a comic strip or graphic novel? Use the template below, or draw your own to create a fun new version of your writing. Remember that in comics and graphic novels there is far less writing, but the pictures need to show a lot! We'd love to see some of your work at our teams meeting this afternoon, even if you don't finish!

Reading
Let's switch to some non-fiction reading today. Below you will find a scavenger hunt with some non-fiction text features. As you read today, notice what text features you can find in your book. When you are done reading, try going back into your text and taking some notes using the template below. Doing this helps the information stick in your brain better, and it will help you understand what you read better!

Math
Today we are moving our addition and subtraction to double digits! Your teacher will go over this during the morning lesson, but a reminders again; always make sure you start with the ones place! Be sure to ask for help if you are unsure. The 2 pages without regrouping can be done by all students, however if students are wanting to try regrouping, please double check with their teacher first.

Daily Math Game
We have a great math game that will help you review your fact families, and challenge your brain today! See how quick you can figure out what's missing from your partners hand! My favourite way to play this game is with dominoes, but uno cards, or a regular deck of cards works great too!
